Book Report

You know what's crazy?  I actually miss having to do book reports.  I don't miss all of the red tape teachers used to put on them, but I miss the general concept.  So, I'm using this blogpost as an outlet for book reviews, if I feel the book was worthy enough to be promoted.  Not that any of you followers necessarily agree with or like my taste in books, but you might enjoy hearing about them, anyway.  We'll see.

So, a brief overview -- I love historical fiction novels.  More often than not these tend to include civil war period pieces, such as novels from Jeff and Michael Shaara.  I enjoy sci-fi/fantasy from time to time, especially the Last Herald Mage series by Mercedes Lackey.  And I like the brute honesty of Russian Literature.  Those guys -- Tolstoy, Doestoyevsky, etc -- they just tell it like it is, there is no fluff.  I appreciate that.  Every now and then a novel from some other genre will find its way into my hands, and sometimes I end up liking it.  That doesn't happen a whole lot, though.

My favorites list would include:  Magic's Price (Lackey), Crime and Punishment (Doestoyevsky), White Oleander (Janet Oke), The Last Full Measure (Shaara).

See the next post for my 'first' book report in over 10 years . . .

  1. If you like historical fiction, you MUST read The Pillars of the Earth if you haven't.
